Artist
Statement
I
have always enjoyed capturing the beauty of
our scenic countryside using watercolour,
chalk pastel and acrylic paints although I
do prefer chalk pastel and acrylics for their
opposing benefits. Chalks provide the immediateness
of glowing colours and the ability to blend
the rich tones necessary to capture vivid
landscapes. Acrylics on the other hand, allow
for high contrast and the colour values shown
in our distinctive seasons. When I paint,
I want my I want my work to simulate the imagination
of the viewer. I do this by starting with
deep design and composition, use colours that
stir feelings while I maintain my free flowing
style in order to convey vibrant impressions.
My
love landscape stems from the incredible beauty
we can see in our natural surroundings. Over
the years I have trained my eye to appreciate
the intensity and contrasts in our landscapes,
specially seen in our colder crisper seasons.
All I need to do is look out on a marsh or
field to see the values and contrasts shown
by the blues and grays of winter, the golds
and earth tones of the wind blown land and
the rich colours of the bush and forests.
I encourage everyone to take a fresh look
at their surroundings and to teach themselves
to see this intense beauty.
